Introduction and Objectives of the Project
The objectives of the Assignment No.2 is to analyse the customer requirements of the Blue in Green Recycling and Manufacturing Company, BGRM, with the tool that has been developed by Professor Ranky named CORA: Component Oriented Requirements Analysis. This tool is used to prioritize the requirements from customers, those are the collaborative companies of The BGRM Company. The result of CORA tool will provide the information that helping the general manager to see the direction of company and giving the real data to help the Engineering Manager making decisions that including with green engineering and sustainable technology.
A Brief Description of the Methodologies Applied
This assignment illustrates the applying of CORA tool to prioritize customer requirements and generating customer factors the CORA spreadsheet, developed by Professor Rank, that integrating the four modules these are:
o User Requirements: collecting all the actual and accurate user requirements and prioritizing them in the term of importance.
o Engineering Solutions: this tool can help the final output meet the requirements by developing the processes in each product life cycle
o Parameter Calculations: calculating on the basis of the requirement priority level, and the correlation values.
o Benchmarking: Comparing to our product with the competitive product and defining the advantages and disadvantages of one another.
In this assignment, you will see the more cooperative of the two collaborative companies those are PENTAX A RICOH COMPANY and SONY HANDYCAM providing and brainstorming for the customer requirements and the standard of the new products.
The Main Body of The Project
Critical Requirements:
The main idea of the Assignment No.2 is to identify and analyze the Blue in Green Recycling and Manufacturing Company’ customer requirements, cooperating with green and sustainable technology, by using the CORA tools this method can be applied to a wide range of subjects, including user interface requirements design for controllers, disassemble operator screens, and others, offering the analyst and the software engineering team accurate designs specification, that yield in software, that satisfies customer requirements within a competitive environment.
The critical requirements which relate to Total Quality Management and Green Engineering are:
- Product Material: New kind of material that made from recycled plastic with good mechanical property
- Compliance standards: The new product must meet the customer standards.
- Eco-friendly: The product and manufacturing system must not generate pollution.
- Shape: Shape of camera body should be attractive for end-users, will to buy.
- Reliability: Quality of product must be reliable and trust able.
- Durability: The new material must be strong with long time warranty.
- Using Green Energy: Renewable Energy would be mainly concerned.
- Product Safety: The material must be safety for the end-users.
- Low Cost Material: The customer prefers to paid reasonable price.
- Water Resistance: The new series of camera is water resistance.
- Delivery Time: Short period would be preferred.
- Customization: The camera will be to assemble with various type of lens and accessories.
- Low maintenance: Maintenance parts and cost should not be expensive
- User-friendly: The new product must be easy to use for everyone.
- Insulation: The material must not conduct electricity.
- Heat Resistance : The material must not conduct electricity.
CORA:
CORA is a matrix-based method, similar to that of QFD (Quality Function Deployment) practices, developed for user requirement need analysis. This has been applied to develop and determine the direction of the BGRM Company's project and minimized dissatisfaction, and financial loss due to inadequate requirements specification, and poor communication between customers and providers.
To generate the effective and accurate result of CORA, one must understand the generic methodology before begin to work on the particular study.
Following by these step:
Define scope, Function and Purpose: The team should define the system or sub-system, or any product, process, or service system design to be analyzed. It is important to realize, that the scope and the function of CORA changes as it is applied at different levels and stages of the production system, or product design process, or other processes.
Identify User Requirements: This means that the team should collect all realistic and accurate user requirements and enter them in the left hand side of our CORA spreadsheet.
Prioritize Potential Requirements: This activity means, that all requirements should be ranked depending on their importance, by the cross-functional team as early as possible.
In order to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction with the end product, this activity focuses on the key issues and provides a traceable path from the customer down to the most detailed processes, throughout each stage of the product development cycle.
In order to quantify the above, correlation values are set in the CORA matrix: 1, meaning 'low level correlation', or 3, meaning 'medium', or 9, meaning 'high level correlation'. These values could be subject of discussion, therefore should be determined as part of a CORA Team activity
